Spirit, Soul, & Body

Updated: Jun 30, 2022

The following is a quick overview of the spirit, soul, and body. It is in no way a complete explanation, but it highlights some truths to help understand the differences and how they function together.

Spirit

You are a spirit. When you were born again, you received a new spirit and the Spirit of God came inside you. You were joined as one spirit with the Lord:

JOHN 3: 6-7 That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. Do not marvel that I said to you, ‘You must be born again.’

EZEKIEL 36:26-27 And I will give you a new heart [inner man, soul, mind, will], and a new spirit [breath] I will put within you. And I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh. And I will put my Spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes and be careful to obey my rules.

1 CORINTHIANS 6:17 But he who is joined to the Lord is one spirit with Him.

Soul

You have a soul. Your soul is your mind, understanding, emotions, affections, and your will. Since your spirit is one with the Spirit of the Lord and is perfect, you now need to immerse your soul with what is in your spirit. To walk in dominion with unwavering faith requires your soul to be in complete agreement with the spirit. To understand more about this, see the training Renewing Your Mind.

Body

You live in a body. When your soul is in full agreement with the Word of God and immersed to the point of alignment with the spirit/Spirit, you now have dominion over your body and over the natural things of this world. You can command the mountain to be cast into the see and it will obey you. You can speak to the fig tree and it will obey you.

MATTHEW 21:18-22 In the morning, as he was returning to the city, he became hungry. And seeing a fig tree by the wayside, he went to it and found nothing on it but only leaves. And he said to it, “May no fruit ever come from you again!” And the fig tree withered at once. When the disciples saw it, they marveled, saying, “How did the fig tree wither at once?” And Jesus answered them, “Truly, I say to you, if you have faith and do not doubt, you will not only do what has been done to the fig tree, but even if you say to this mountain, ‘Be taken up and thrown into the sea,’ it will happen. And whatever you ask in prayer, you will receive, if you have faith.”
